A South African Braai — Reimagined

Vegan Braai was created to show that plant-based food can be delicious, satisfying, and nutritionally balanced while still bringing people together around real fire cooking.After learning more about modern food production, I became increasingly mindful of how food is sourced, the environmental impact of large-scale meat production, and the conditions many farm animals endure.Vegan Braai is my small way of promoting a more sustainable and environmentally conscious approach to food — without losing the enjoyment and atmosphere of a traditional South African braai.

The Spirit of a South African Braai

Growing up in South Africa, braais were always about more than food. They brought friends, families, and communities together in a relaxed and welcoming environment.

Vegan Braai was inspired by the idea that this same experience can still exist using plant-based food prepared over real fire with South African herbs, spices, and flavours.

From boerewors-style sausages and burgers to flame-grilled vegetables and homemade sides, the aim is to create food that feels generous, flavourful, and satisfying.

A Personal Service

Vegan Braai is a small, hands-on service where I personally prepare and cook each braai myself.

The focus is on fresh produce, homemade-style salads, quality ingredients, and simple food cooked properly over fire — without unnecessary additives, enhancers, or preservatives wherever possible.

The aim is straightforward: relaxed backyard braai food that people can enjoy together in a warm and informal atmosphere.
